Hospital Authority Early Assessment Service for Young People with Psychosis (EASY) Programme



I. Introduction
The Early Assessment Service for Young People with Psychosis (EASY) Programme is a service programme for people suffering from early psychosis. If a person who is suffering from early psychosis fails to receive prompt treatment, it may have severe repercussions on his or her psychological, physical and social development. The Programme offers a one-stop, phase-specific and open-referral service that enables those seeking medical attention to obtain early assessment and treatment in an appropriate setting. Educational and promotion campaigns are also organised to raise public's awareness about early psychosis and its symptoms

II. Service Target Groups
The Programme primarily targets people aged from 15 to 64 with early psychosis.

III. Programme's Content
  1. Early referral and assessment
    The public may refer suspected early psychosis cases to service centres via the EASY hotline (2928 3283) or contact the service centres directly. Once a case has been referred to them, screening assessments will be conducted as soon as possible and appropriate management will be provided including medical assessments for suitable clients at the earliest possible time (usually about 2-4 weeks after screening).
  2. Ongoing treatment services
    Each service centre has a multi-disciplinary medical team consisting of psychiatric doctors, psychiatric nurses, clinical psychologists and etc. The multi-disciplinary team provides personalised therapeutic solutions for early psychosis patients, including medication, psychological therapy and rehabilitation plans with a view to helping patients resume a normal life, while limiting the adverse effects of their condition on them and their family members.
  3. Extensive public education
    To identify its symptoms, the public first needs to know what early psychosis entails. This enables them to observe family members, colleagues and friends who may be suffering from it and refer them for treatment. The Programme aims to strengthen the public's understanding of:
    i.   What early psychosis is
    ii.  How it can be identified, and how suspected sufferers can be referred for treatment
    iii. The importance of early treatment
    4. The multidisciplinary teams under the Programme conduct various seminars and workshops to provide information about early psychosis and its treatment to social workers, teachers, parents and members of the public. The EASY hotline (2928 3283) is also operated for public's inquiries and referral services.
