Introduction
Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH), established in 1975, is a major acute general hospital in Kowloon West Cluster (KWC) under Hospital Authority (HA). PMH provides 24-hour emergency service and comprehensive secondary services for Kwai Tsing District and KWC, as well as the tertiary centre for KWC and the quaternary centre for specific territory-wide services. Specifically, PMH is one of the trauma centres in HA, and is also the cluster referral centre for 24-hour emergency cardiac interventions, neurosurgical and other high-tech or complex surgical services. High-risk obstetric care will continue to be centralised at PMH to capitalise on the expertise. Moreover, PMH provides Renal Transplants Service, Autologous Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant Service and Cardiac Genetic Service, and the Adult Inborn Errors of Metabolism centre in PMH providing specialist support for patients with complex and special medical needs. The HA Infectious Disease Centre and HA Toxicology Reference Laboratory are situated at PMH serving the whole HA.
There are more than 1,800 beds and over 5,700 staff. The Hospital provides services for patients from Lai Chi Kok, Kwai Chung, Tsing Yi and also those diverted from North Lantau Hospital of Tung Chung.
Lai King Building (LKB) is an annex block of PMH which is 5-minute drive away from the main block. It provides convalescent and rehabilitation support for PMH patients. Besides in-patient extended care, LKB also provides a Geriatric Day Hospital.
