1. Anti-TB chemotherapy

3 to 4 drug regimen
Either once per day or 3 times per week

 

2. Directly Observed Treatment, Short Course (DOTs)

The TB patient takes every dose of the medication under the direct observation of health personnel or a designated person.

Six months treatment
Occasional 9 months to 1 year
Infection rate drops to minimal after 2 weeks treatment
Chemotherapy is very effective, success rate over 95%

3. Non-compliance in chemotherapy

Drug resistance
Disease progression
Infect other people
Death

 

Infectious rate of tubercle bacillus

After effective chemotherapy up to 2 days, sputum bacilli count drops by 90%, with rapid decrease of infection.
