Introduction of General Out-patient Clinic Services

The Hospital Authority (HA) is committed to providing community-based primary health care services. Our service users are mainly the elders, low-income individuals, and patients with chronic diseases.

Patients under the care of GOPCs can be broadly divided into two main categories, namely chronic disease patients with stable conditions (e.g. diabetes mellitus, hypertension) and episodic disease patients with relatively mild symptoms (e.g. influenza, colds). For chronic disease patients who require follow up, the next appointment would be arranged by clinic staff after consultation based on clinical needs. Episodic disease patients may reserve consultation timeslots available in the next 24 hours through the GOPC Telephone Appointment System or the "Book GOPC" function in "HA Go" – HA’s one-stop mobile app. Patients attending an appointment should bring their identity document for registration at clinics. If you cannot attend an appointment on time, please make a cancellation as soon as possible so that the quota could be released for booking by other patients in need.

GOPCs also provide nursing services such as drug injection and wound dressing. Furthermore, GOPCs provide health risk assessments and follow-up care for patients with diabetes mellitus or hypertension etc. by multi-disciplinary teams, and targeted treatment services including continence care, medication management & compliance, etc. for high-risk chronic patients by nurses and allied health professionals such as physiotherapists, occupational therapists and pharmacists. To facilitate smokers to quit smoking, GOPCs provide smoking counselling and cessation programme.

GOPCs are located in various districts all over Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories. Some of them provide services during evening, on Sunday and public holidays. In general, the clinics open at half past eight o’clock in the morning. In case of adverse weather conditions, for example, while the black rainstorm warning or the tropical cyclone signal No.8 or above is in force, service users may refer to the public announcements on radio, television, HA website, the Telephone Appointment System and the mobile app for service arrangements. Details on the services of GOPCs and appointment booking for patients with episodic diseases are provided in the links below.
