Introduction

Established in 1975, Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) is a major acute general hospital and the flagship hospital in the Kowloon West Cluster. There are 1,442 beds (including 256 beds at Lai King Building) and around 3,700 staff as at 31 March 2009. It provides services for patients from Lai Chi Kok, Kwai Chung, Tsing Yi, Tsuen Wan and Tung Chung Districts. There is a 24-hour accident and emergency service with a full range of acute specialist and ambulatory services. It is a tertiary referral centre for Infectious Diseases, Nephrology and Urology. It is the cluster referral centre for Oncology, Trauma, Renal Transplant and Dialysis, Lithotripsy, Pulmonary Medicine and Tuberculosis, high risk Obstetrics care, and also Paediatric and Neonatal intensive care. With the looming threat of Avian Flu outbreak, PMH will be the designated hospital to accept the first confirmed Avian Flu patient.

Lai King Building (LKB) is an annex block of PMH with 256 beds providing convalescent and rehabilitation support for PMH acute patients. It is located on Lai King Hill which is at 5 minutes drive away from PMH. Besides providing in-patient extended care, LKB also provides a Geriatric Day Hospital with 40 places.
