Diabetes Mellitus Patients Support Group

 

 

Diabetes Mellitus Patients Support Group(DMPSG) of Kwong Wah Hospital was established in October 1997. It was organized by Department of Medicine & Geriatrics as well as the Medical Social Service Department. Membership reached 258 by 2005.
 

 

Objectives
  • To enhance the supportive network among members and to encourage their families actively participate in the treatment process.
  • To promote the sharing of information among members so as to raise their understanding and concern towards the illness.
  • To effectuate the treatment process by enhancing the communication between patients and the health care team.
  • To promote the welfare and rights of patients suffering from diabetes mellitus.
 

 

Activities
  • Therapeutic programs, e.g. small group sharing, mutual supporting birthday gathering.
  • Educational programs, e.g. health talk, educational classes
  • Quarterly bulletins -¡©³ß°T¡ª
  • Bulk purchase diabetes mellitus medical items in a special price as to promote members' self-monitoring of blood glucose.
  • Community programs, e.g. In 2002, co-jointed with Yau Tsim Mong District Board & Salvation Army Integrated Services for The Youth to raise community concern of DM patients and promote community health awareness.
  • Recreational program, e.g. outings, visits, interest and exercise class.
